With the radiance of the Sun and the fire of the Solar ray, Sunstone carries the energy of Ra, the Sun god, whose energy brings all potential life from within the Earth. It is a Stone of Leadership - of personal power, freedom, and expanded consciousness. Truly reflecting the qualities of Light, it brings openness, benevolence and warmth, strength, mental clarity, and the willingness and ability to bestow blessings upon others. Known as a joyful stone, Sunstone inspires the nurturing of self in order to be of service to others. It restores the enjoyment of life, good nature and provides a sense of abundance.
Wear Sunstone to feel alive and enthusiastic. It increases vitality and is also an excellent stone for phobia sufferers to ease fear of the dark, enclosed places, or the presence of other triggers. With its powers of the Sun and Light, Sunstone clears and cleanses all the chakras, restoring joy and nurturing the spirit. Sunstone carries Yang energy, and balances with the Yin of Moonstone. Worn together, these stones integrate ‘god and goddess powers’, assertive and outward success and inner harmony within your life. As an amulet of protection, Sunstone absorbs positive energy flow and works to keep negative energy away from us. In our technological world, it also works to keep harmful electromagnetic transmissions from sapping our energy and health.
The Icelandic Tradition of Sunstone
“Rauðúlfs þáttr" is the medieval Icelandic tale of Saint Olav, relating how Sunstone (Icelandic: sólarsteinn) was used. A round and rotating house visited by Olav has been interpreted as a model of the cosmos and the human soul as well as a prefiguration of the Church. The concept belongs to the genre of ‘abodes of the Sun,’ which was widespread in medieval literature. St. Olav used the Sunstone to confirm the time reckoning skill of his host right after leaving this house. He held the Sunstone up against the snowy and completely overcast sky and noted where light was emitted from it (the Icelandic words used do not make it clear whether the light was reflected by the stone, emitted by it or transmitted through it). A theory exists that the Sunstone had polarizing attributes and was used as a navigation instrument by seafarers in the Viking Age.
