While attending the Cosmic Consciousness Conference at Uluru in Central Australia this month, I heard two speakers say basically the same thing in different ways: namely, that as human beings we exist on two separate bandwidths of reality at the same time. This is our duality.

The main challenge for most of us is that our consciousness is stuck in our physical brain during our waking hours, which is turn is subject to the chatter of unwanted thoughts that arise continuously. Meditation is the time-honoured method of ridding ourselves of mental clutter… however we do not want to rid ourselves of any part of our being that constitutes our real Self, including our Soul Personality or our real Ego (with a capital E – it is Latin for “I”).

One contemplation we can practice is visualizing our Overself as a Miniature Sun above us – as taught by New Age teachers concerning the five Universal chakras above our head, and as symbolized in Egyptian art by the Ancients with a solar sphere above their head.

As a duality, we also have our Solar Heart within us, connected to our Earth Spirit. We need to connect our Earth Star with our Soul Star while still alive, so that Soul and Spirit do not keep separating at death, as St Paul warned. Once they are reunited, we do not need to keep reincarnating if we don’t want to. Bring the Miniature Sun from above down to re-join the Spirit at the Heart of us.

One of my favourite books is called The Division of Consciousness (by Peter Novak, 1997). According to Division Theory, a person’s consciousness and unconsciousness split apart upon death. Some mystical societies teach that the Spirit and Soul split apart when we die, and St Paul wrote about the difference of the Spirit and Soul. The Egyptians spoke of the two immaterial spiritual parts of humans: the Ka, which was the person’s double, their unconscious self; and the Ba which is what we call the Soul or their life-force.

Of course, we all have a third part which is our body. But we leave this body (and brain) behind when we die, so what will remain of the self that is a trinity while we are here on Earth? Jesus Christ made it clear that the Father and Spirit were all about redeeming that third part (the “Son”), so that we don’t split apart at death. Just like the Sun and the Earth working together to save humans. The body is animated by what I call the Earth Spirit or, your Earth Star. The message of all the ancient mystics is not to divide, but to unite our parts. If we combine the energy of our bodies – our heart and personality – with our Soul and Spirit, then a new Light body can be born (created) which takes the place of the physical body.

When people tell you that you must let go of your Ego, be careful. The idea is to transmute or transfigure your Ego, not to cut it out and throw it away. To quote from the Gospel of Thomas (22 & 61) “When you make the two one, and when you make the inside like the outside and the outside like the inside, and the above like the below… then you will enter the kingdom… If (one) is undivided, he will be filled with light, but if he is divided, he will be filled with darkness.”

Make your inner heart shine so that it is at the centre of your Sphere, powering it, and making it join with the Sphere of the Sun of Righteousness above you.

In the current issue of my magazine Australian Esoteric #18 (December 2018) I have included a short piece about the Camino Way in Spain. This route was originally used in pre-Christian times by the Celts, then by the Romans, who put little monuments along the way, dedicated to some of their gods, especially the goddess Venus. The main pilgrimage route to Santiago follows an early Roman trade route, which continues to the Atlantic coast of Galicia, ending at Cape Finisterre. (literally, End of the Earth, or Land’s End).

The full name is Camino de Santiago de Compostela. Camino means the Way and refers to the Milky Way, which points the way overhead for pilgrims. Santiago means Saint James.  Compostela has a couple of meanings, possibly ‘field of stars’.

The route was claimed by Christians in the 9th century when it was said that the relics of St James were buried in what is now called Santiago. The secret burial place was revealed to a hermit by a bright shining star twinkling overhead.

The symbol of the route is the scallop shell, which dates back to Roman times – the symbol of Venus. Along the Camino Way are Dolmens, which face east, toward the rising Sun. These were built by ancient inhabitants thousands of years ago, whose understanding of Solar influence has been long forgotten.

The interior of the Santiago Compostela Cathedral is designed so that the light of the Sun shines on the relics of St James at three times of year: the Spring Equinox in March, the Solstice in December, and on 25th July – his Feast Day.

Following the Way is both a pilgrimage and an initiation for believers. Its ancient roots are connected to the Sun and stars. There is no need to look for divisions between “pagans”, Christians and New Age pilgrims. The Camino is a valid Way for all of us.
