Throughout history there have been stories of humans having divine, or semi-divine, twins – and many of these are of a ‘Solar nature.’ Indeed, the ancient Greeks thought of the Sun itself having its twin in the moon – represented by twins Apollo and Artemis in the human realm, and Helios and Selene in the spiritual realm. (So here we not only have the concept of twins, but also the trinities for each of them: Celestial [Gods & Titans], human and spiritual).
A couple of years ago I wrote an article which included the concept of each of us having a Spirit Twin. My guiding maxim in life has always been “Know Thyself” and for some of us that includes meeting your Spirit Twin – if you have one – or it may be that you have connections with divine twins in the higher realms.
These can be discovered by going deep within your Self – usually meditation is the best way – first making the enquiry and then patiently waiting for the response.
These things are worth meditating on: Do you have a Spirit Twin? Do you feel a connection with any particular set of Archetypal Twins? Do you feel connected to the Sun or Moon?

Besides my own Spirit Twin, I have personal connections with other sets of twins, relating back to the ancient Mediterranean Mystery Schools. These include Castor and Pollux – I have visited the ruin of their shrine, called the Temple of the Dioscuri, in the Valley of the Temples (Agrigento, Sicily), where I first found this connection. [They are often associated with Gemini]. I am also linked to Romulus and Remus: two very real figures born in 780BC.
Archetypal twins are sometimes portrayed as complementary forces; other times they are opposites. This is interesting, because in the case of the Sun and the Moon, do you see them as being opposites, or complementary? Same goes for Arsu and Azizos – the ancient twins of Syria, who were seen as being connected to the evening star and morning star – both of course are Venus, in different aspects.
If you explore the histories of many great civilizations you will find that twins often feature in their establishment, and they are usually associated with the Sun and Moon:
Romulus & Remus (Rome)
Hunahpu & Xbalanque, the Maya Hero twins, (the Popol Vuh pairs them with Sun & Moon)
Ashwini Kumara and Asvinau (Hindu twin sons of the Sun god Surya)
Osiris & Isis (Egypt)
Freyr and Freyja (Norse)
Jacob and Esau (Jewish)
Ahura Mazda and Ahriman (Zoroastrian)
Izanagi and Izanami (Japan)
He-He Er Xian [or: He and Ho, immortal twin boys] (China)
The Ibeji Twins (Africa)
Two that you may not have heard of are Olisihpa and Olosohpa, the twin brothers who founded the original dynasty on the mysterious site at Nan Madol on the Pacific islands of Pohnpei.
